Rachel Swirsky review of “Fortuitous Meeting”

Better late than never…  This week I discovered that Rachel Swirsky gave a wonderful review to “The Fortutious Meeting of Gerard van Oost and Oludara” last year.

Rachel wrote: “While the story felt like a set-up for a novel, it also felt satisfying–the major plot points that were set up were also addressed. The characters were ready to adventure, but I felt like I’d had a satisfying taste of their lives. I’m looking forward to the whole novel “meal,” but I’m happy with the flavorful forkful I got.”

You can read the entire review here.

Thanks so much, Rachel!  The “meal” is on its way. 🙂

Locus Magazine reviews “Fortuitous Meeting”

Rich Horton reviews “The Fortuitous Meeting of Gerard van Oost and Oludara” in the April 2010 issue of Locus Magazine.  Here’s what he has to say:

“I also enjoyed Christopher Kastensmidt’s “The Fortuitous Meeting of Gerard Van Oost and Oludara”, set in Brazil, in which Van Oost frees Oludara from slavery.  This is a sort of origin story, and so we get to see each hero perform one heroic (and clever) feat, setting up further adventures for the pair.”

Thanks for the wonderful reivew, Mr. Horton!  More of those adventures are coming soon.

And thanks to Douglas Cohen for the head’s up!

Locus Online reviews “Fortuitous Meeting”

In her review, Lois Tilton of Locus Online gives a “Recommended” rating to the novelette “The Fortuitous Meeting of Gerard van Oost and Oludara”.

Lois writes: “An entertaining mix of adventure and folklore in a fantastic world where monsters roam the forests of Brazil and Africa. It would seem that the author intends to send these two on a series of continuing adventures.”

Thank you, Lois, I most certainly do!
